Description
The SH-16 59/Custom is what happens when Seymour Duncan refuses to pick a side. Rather than choosing between the sweet vintage character of the ’59 or the aggressive push of the Custom, this hybrid humbucker wires them together — a ’59 screw coil on one side, a Custom slug coil on the other — to land somewhere genuinely interesting: sparkling top end, low end with real weight behind it, and a midrange that growls without turning muddy.
- Alnico 5 bar magnet
- DC resistance: 11.5k
- Gold-plated cover
It’s built for the bridge slot, ideally paired with a vintage-output neck humbucker like the ’59n or Alnico II Pro, giving you a set that stays balanced across positions instead of one pickup steamrolling the other. Blues players, classic rock devotees, and anyone chasing that pop/rock middle ground will find plenty to like here — it responds well whether your guitar’s wearing maple or rosewood.
Because of the hybrid coil design, a traditional coil split doesn’t give you a thin, one-dimensional tone — it isolates the Custom coil, so you still get a full-bodied, usable split rather than an afterthought setting.
Prefer nickel hardware, a Trembucker-spaced bridge (TB-16), or a 7-string version? Seymour Duncan offers this same 59/Custom hybrid recipe across those configurations too, so you can match it to whatever guitar’s on the bench.
