Description
The SH-16 59/Custom Hybrid exists because sometimes you don’t want to choose between eras. Seymour Duncan took the screw coil from the vintage-flavored ’59 and mated it with the slug coil from the higher-output Custom, landing on a pickup that splits the difference: sparkling top end, tight low string response, and a midrange that growls without turning to mush.
It’s a bridge pickup through and through, and it plays especially well against a vintage-output neck humbucker — think ’59n or Alnico II Pro — for a set that covers blues, classic rock, pop, and everything adjacent without feeling one-note.
Under the hood you get an Alnico 5 bar magnet and 11.5k of DC resistance, giving it enough push to drive an amp into breakup while keeping note definition intact. The mismatched-coil design also means a standard coil split gives you the beefier Custom side on its own, so you get a genuinely useful single-coil voice instead of a thin afterthought.
- Magnet: Alnico 5 bar
- DC Resistance: 11.5k
- Position: Bridge (works with vintage-output neck humbuckers)
- Coil split delivers the stronger Custom coil tone
- Also offered in nickel or gold plating
- Available in Trembucker spacing (TB-16) and 7-string versions
Drop it into any well-balanced dual-humbucker guitar — it doesn’t discriminate between maple or rosewood boards, just gives you more tonal ground to cover.
