Seymour Duncan built the ’59 Model to chase down that elusive late-1950s humbucker tone, and in the bridge position it earns its reputation as one of the most versatile PAF-style pickups around. It’s equally at home carving out chimey clean tones for jazz and country as it is pushing warm, saturated leads for classic and heavy rock.
What sets this pickup apart is its balance. The clean sound stays crystalline without turning brittle, while distorted tones come through full-bodied with smooth, singing sustain rather than harsh edge. Compared to the SH-55 Seth Lover, the ’59 sits with slightly more scooped mids, giving it a bit more room to breathe alongside a driven amp or overdrive pedal.
Under the hood you’ll find the vintage-correct details that PAF chasers look for: plain enamel magnet wire, a long-legged bottom plate, a single-conductor vintage-style cable, and no logo on the cover for that unbranded, old-school look. Unlike an original PAF, though, this one is vacuum wax potted, so you get the vintage voice without the microphonic squeal at higher volumes.
