Description
The SH-2N Jazz Model proves that a pickup’s name doesn’t have to define its range. Despite the jazzy label, this humbucker has serious rock pedigree — it’s the neck pickup Randy Rhoads famously used, and it holds its own across metal, blues, fusion, and beyond.
Voiced for clarity, the Jazz neck delivers an articulate, detailed top end that keeps fast runs and complex chord voicings from turning to mud. Output sits a touch lower than Duncan’s SH-1 ’59 Model, trading some punch for sharper treble resolution and smoother sustain. Push it into distortion and the tone stays full-bodied rather than harsh, making it a natural partner for hotter bridge pickups.
This is the neck version, and it’s built to complement a wide range of bridge humbuckers. Pairing it with an SH-4 JB is Seymour’s own go-to combination, while an SH-5 Duncan Custom in the bridge opens up an even broader tonal palette — from glassy cleans to aggressive crunch.
Key details:
- Neck-position humbucker, moderate output
- Slightly lower output and brighter treble response than the SH-1 ’59 Model
- Four-conductor hookup cable for flexible wiring (series, parallel, split)
- Available in custom color covers: red, green, yellow, dark blue, light blue, and pink
If you want neck tone that’s clear under gain and articulate when clean, the Jazz Model earns its reputation.
