Description
If there’s one humbucker every player has plugged into at some point, it’s the JB. For over three decades it’s been the go-to bridge pickup for anyone chasing that sweet spot between blues grit and metal aggression – and yes, Seymour Duncan himself keeps one in his own guitar.
What makes the SH-4 special isn’t just the output, though it’s got plenty of that. It’s how the pickup keeps its composure at high gain, holding onto articulate top-end detail and biting harmonic content instead of turning into mush. Push it hard and you get raw, snarling rock ‘n’ roll; back off the gain and it cleans up into warm, expressive tones with real dynamic range. Compared to the SH-14 Custom 5, the JB leans brighter and more detailed up top – some players tame that edge by wiring it with 250K pots instead of the usual 500K.
Built for the bridge position, the JB is often teamed up with a neck pickup for a more versatile set. Seymour’s own pick for the pairing is the SH-2n Jazz, though plenty of players go the SH-1 ’59 route for classic P.A.F. warmth on the neck.
- Humbucker pickup designed for bridge position
- High output with retained treble clarity and harmonic bite
- Four-conductor hookup cable included
- Gold cover finish
- Pairs well with SH-2n Jazz or SH-1 ’59 neck pickups
This one’s earned its reputation the hard way – three decades of guitarists reaching for it when they need output without losing their edge.
