Ask a hundred guitarists which humbucker they reach for when they need attitude without losing clarity, and a huge chunk will say the SH-4 JB. It’s been the go-to hot-rodded bridge pickup for over three decades because it refuses to pick a lane — you get real output and grind for rock and metal, but the top end stays articulate instead of collapsing into mush. Chords stay defined, single notes cut, and pinch harmonics jump out on command.
This particular JB is the slant-cut version wound to Nighthawk specs, so it’s shaped and voiced to drop into that slanted bridge cavity correctly. Under the hood it’s the same Alnico 5 bar magnet and 16.4k DC resistance the standard JB is known for, delivering the classic sweep from warm cleans to raw, snarling overdrive. Compared to the SH-14 Custom 5, the JB pulls ahead on treble detail — if that edge feels a touch sharp for your rig, swapping in 250K pots will round it off nicely. A four-conductor hookup cable is included, so coil-splitting and phase experiments are on the table.
