The SH-55N isn’t a modern reinterpretation of a P.A.F. — it’s the real recipe, worked out by Seymour himself alongside Seth Lover, the man who invented the humbucker in the first place. Every material choice traces back to 1955: nickel silver cover and long-legged baseplate, butyrate bobbins, plain enamel magnet wire, an Alnico 2 bar magnet, a wooden spacer, and black paper tape holding it all together.
Crucially, Seymour Duncan left this one unpotted. That’s not an oversight — it’s the whole point. Wax potting tames microphonics and squashes some of the pickup’s natural openness, so skipping it here lets the SH-55N breathe the way the originals did, complete with a touch of that
