Description
The Pearly Gates was born from a mission to bottle the sound of that legendary ’59 Les Paul Standard—the one behind decades of Texas blues-rock swagger. Seymour Duncan didn’t just chase vintage warmth here; they dialed in a touch more output and a brighter top end, so pinch harmonics leap off the strings and sustain hangs around longer than you’d expect from an old-school design.
Tonally, it’s an interesting mix: sweet and rounded on the low end, but with a slightly cheeky edge up top that keeps things from ever sounding sleepy. Blues players love it, but it holds its own just as well in classic rock, southern rock, jam band, and even hard rock settings where you need clarity without losing warmth.
- Slightly hotter-than-vintage humbucker voicing
- Bright, articulate top end with strong harmonic response
- Nickel cover, neck position
- Four-conductor hookup cable included
Pairing it up
This pickup is flexible enough to work in either the neck or bridge slot. Drop it in the bridge and pair it with an APH-1n Alnico II Pro in the neck for a smoother, more vintage-leaning combo. Or keep it in the neck and add an SH-11 Custom Custom in the bridge if you’re after something heavier and more aggressive.
Best suited for
Guitars on the brighter side of the tonal spectrum get the most out of this pickup—think maple or ebony fingerboards. It also plays nicely with hollow and semi-hollow bodies, adding clarity without stripping away the natural resonance of the guitar itself.
