Description
Ever stared down the pedalboard-sized decision of which guitar to bring to a gig because you needed humbucker punch, P-90 grit, AND that glassy Strat quack? The SHPR-1 P-Rails neck pickup ends that debate. Seymour Duncan built a patent-pending coil design that lives in a standard humbucker-sized housing but splits into three genuinely distinct voices depending on how you wire it.
- Full humbucker mode: thanks to the intentionally mismatched coils, you get a wide, open humbucker tone rather than a compressed, one-note growl
- P-90 mode: chunky, dynamic, and unmistakably P-90 in character
- Single-coil Rail mode: an Alnico-powered rail coil that nails the airy snap of the “2” and “4” positions on a great Strat
Under the hood it’s loaded with an alnico 5 bar magnet, giving it the touch-sensitivity and harmonic push that alnico players chase.
Wiring options
Want just humbucker and P-90 access? A simple two-way switch (push-pull pot or mini-toggle) gets you there. Want the full three-personality experience, single-coil Rail included? Wire it with a three-way DPDT on-off-on switch instead.
One pickup or a matched pair?
Drop a single P-Rails into any guitar routed for a standard humbucker or Trembucker and you’ll immediately add tonal range. But the design really shows off when installed as a matched neck/bridge set, where the switching options and single-coil Rail tones come fully into their own.
Equally at home in country, surf, jazz, blues, classic rock, or heavier territory — this is the neck pickup for players who refuse to pick just one tone.
