Description
The SHPR-1s P-Rails set solves a problem every gigging player knows too well: needing a humbucker for crunch, a P-90 for grit, and a Strat-style single coil for glassy cleans, all without swapping guitars mid-set. Seymour Duncan’s patent-pending design stacks a full humbucker’s worth of tone into a coil layout that splits cleanly into either a genuine P-90 voice or a proper single-coil Rail sound.
Left in full humbucker mode, the mismatched coil configuration gives you a wide, open sound rather than the usual compressed thickness. Flip to P-90 and you get real single-coil bark with serious low-end punch. Switch both units to Rails mode together and you land somewhere between a Strat’s 2 and 4 positions — that hollow, quacky in-between tone players chase for years.
These pickups drop straight into any guitar routed for standard humbuckers or Trembuckers, so there’s no body surgery required. Running just one P-Rails will add noticeable range to your existing tone, but pairing neck and bridge in this set is what actually unlocks the full switching potential and gets the single-coil voicing dialed in properly across pickup positions.
Wiring options determine how deep you go:
- A two-way switch (push-pull pot or mini-toggle) toggles between humbucker and P-90 tones.
- A three-way DPDT on-off-on switch unlocks all three voices — humbucker, P-90, and single-coil Rail — from each pickup.
Suited to country twang, surf shimmer, blues phrasing, classic rock crunch, and heavier riffing alike, this set is built for players who refuse to pick just one tone for the night.
