Description
Born from George Lynch’s demand for a pickup that could scream on command yet still clean up beautifully when you roll back the volume, the Lil’ Screamin’ Demon shrinks the tone of its full-size Screamin’ Demon sibling into a single-coil footprint — perfect for guitars where you want humbucker attitude without the routing headache.
What sets this pickup apart is its mixed screw setup: Seymour Duncan uses a combination of slotted and Allen head pole screws, which subtly varies the magnetic field between the two coils. The payoff is a big, punchy voice with real percussive snap, but none of the harsh edge you’d expect from a hot single-coil-sized humbucker. There’s a touch of glassy shimmer riding on top of that low-end push, so chords stay defined even when you’re driving the front end of an amp hard.
In the neck/middle position, this is a moderate-output pickup that rewards players who work their volume knob — dime it for screaming lead lines and thick rock rhythm tones, or back off for warmer, jazz-rock fusion cleans and aggressive instrumental textures. It’s equally at home in classic rock, heavy rock, and fusion-leaning styles.
