Description
The SM-3n Seymourized takes the classic mini-humbucker formula and pushes it further into midrange territory. Instead of relying on a standard bar magnet setup, each coil pairs a high-carbon steel blade with a bottom-loaded Alnico V magnet — a design that pulls more detail, clarity, and midrange presence out of the pickup than you’d get from Duncan’s SM-2.
This is the neck-position version, voiced and compensated specifically for tonal balance so it sits well against a hotter bridge pickup rather than getting buried or sounding thin. It’s aimed at players chasing blues, classic rock, southern rock, jam band, and hard rock tones who want a mini-humbucker with some real grit and articulation rather than a purely vintage-polite voice.
Duncan actually built the SM-3 series with pairing in mind — a common setup is running the SM-3b Seymourized (high output) in the bridge alongside this SM-3n in the neck, or mixing this neck unit with an SM-1n Vintage for a more versatile two-pickup combination depending on how much snarl you want on tap.
