Description
If you’ve ever wanted that old-school P-90 snarl without straying from vintage-correct spec, the SP90-1 Vintage bridge pickup is Seymour Duncan’s answer. It’s wound on the same Leesona machine that produced P-90s back in the 1950s, using plain enamel wire, so the output and voicing land right where the originals did — punchier and more midrange-forward than a Strat or Tele single-coil, thanks to those short, wide bobbins.
Expect a tone that’s warm rather than harsh, with a sweet, smooth top end that cleans up nicely but still bites when you dig in. It’s a natural fit for country, jazz, swing, blues, rockabilly, and both classic and heavier rock tones. Mahogany bodies and rosewood boards bring out the best in it, letting the pickup’s inherent warmth balance against the wood’s natural resonance.
One spec worth flagging before you order: this bridge model uses the taller, vintage-correct .745″ height profile, which is noticeably taller than Seymour Duncan’s SP90-2 Hot or SP90-3 Custom. Measure your route and pickup rings accordingly.
