Description

Some pickups are built for subtlety. The SPB-4 is not one of them. Designed to Steve Harris’s exact spec, this P-Bass pickup channels the relentless, mid-heavy snarl that’s driven Iron Maiden’s low end for decades — the kind of tone that cuts through a wall of guitars and still sounds like it’s attacking, not just playing.

Under the covers sit Alnico 5 rod magnets paired with a vintage-hot coil wind, clocking in at 13k DC resistance. That combination pushes the midrange forward while keeping the bass tight and the top end present rather than harsh — a voicing built specifically to respond to Harris’s aggressive two-finger picking style. It’s hot enough to shove an amp’s preamp section hard without falling apart into unwanted clipping, giving you that driven, galloping edge on demand.

Run it solo in a classic Precision configuration for straightforward P-bass thump with extra bite, or bring in an STK-J2b Hot Stack for Jazz in the neck for a quieter, more versatile pairing. Want the full assault? Drop an SJB-3b Quarter Pound for Jazz into the bridge and unleash the complete Harris-style rig.

An Alder body with a Maple neck gets you closest to the source tone, though the pickup holds its aggressive character just as well in an Ash body or with a Rosewood board.
