Description
The SSB-4 Phase 2 set gives four-string players the classic Soapbar footprint and moderate output of an active EMG-style pickup, but without the battery compartment or the active electronics. Seymour Duncan built these as a passive, drop-in alternative, so you get an organic, straightforward tone with real warmth and low-end punch, minus the maintenance headaches of a power source.
Each set is a calibrated neck and bridge pair, matched at the factory so the two pickups balance properly against each other right out of the box. That calibration matters for a passive design, since there’s no onboard preamp to even things out later.
- Direct physical and electrical replacement for EMG 35 or EMG 40 pickups
- Full-length dual blade construction for even string-to-string response across the neck
- Accommodates string spacing up to 2.70″ (68.5mm), built for four-string basses
- Passive Soapbar design — no battery required
- Pairs well with Seymour Duncan’s STC-2 or STC-3 Tone Circuits for added shaping and control
If you’ve been running EMGs and want to simplify your signal chain while keeping that familiar Soapbar look and feel, this set is a straightforward path there. Add an STC tone circuit down the line if you want more active-style tone shaping on top of the passive foundation.
