Description
Not every bassist wants to babysit a 9-volt. The SSB-5 Phase II Passive is Seymour Duncan’s answer for players who want soapbar punch and clarity but would rather keep batteries out of the equation entirely. This is the bridge pickup in the Phase II passive lineup, built specifically for 5-string basses.
Going passive doesn’t mean going soft. The SSB-5 still delivers a confident push with moderate output, just with a more organic, touch-responsive feel than its active siblings. Dig in and you’ll notice the dynamics respond more to your fingers and less to a preamp doing the work for you.
Low B duty is where this pickup earns its keep. Drop tunings and extended-range basses can turn to mud fast, but the SSB-5 holds onto articulation and low-end definition even at the bottom of the neck, so your fifth string stays defined instead of collapsing into a rumble.
Swapping out of an active setup? No routing or drilling required — the SSB-5 is a direct drop-in for any EMG 40-sized pickup cavity, making the changeover straightforward.
