Description
If you want your Strat to sound like the records that made you fall in love with the instrument, the SSL-1 Vintage Staggered is the pickup Seymour Duncan built to get you there. It’s the shop’s best-selling single-coil for Strat, and for good reason: it nails that traditional bright, punchy attack with genuine vintage output, no modern hot-rodding required.
Each pickup uses hand-ground Alnico 5 magnets, staggered to the original vintage spec for balanced string-to-string output, wound moderately with Heavy Formvar wire. The result is a tight, focused “bell” character with a slightly lighter low end than Duncan’s APS-1—so notes stay articulate and chime rather than getting boomy, which matters a lot once you start stacking effects or pushing a tweed-style amp into breakup.
This is the pickup for players chasing clean twang or just-dirty-enough crunch: think country chicken-pickin’, surf reverb, rockabilly slap-back, blues bends, ska upstrokes, or straight-up classic rock rhythm work. It responds beautifully to touch and volume knob dynamics, which is exactly what you want from a real single-coil.
Each SSL-1 ships with:
- Waxed cloth hookup cable
- Vintage-style triangular “keyed” bottom plate
Drop one into the bridge, middle, or neck position—or swap the whole set—for unmistakably authentic Strat tone.
