Seymour Duncan’s SSL-1 is their best-selling Strat single-coil, and this version flips the winding direction and magnetic polarity so it cancels hum properly when paired with a standard pickup in your middle position — a detail that matters a lot once you’re actually gigging with it.
Under the covers you get hand-ground Alnico 5 magnets, staggered to vintage spec, wound with Heavy Formvar wire at Seymour’s traditional moderate output. The result is that bright, snappy, slightly bell-like top end Strat players chase — with a leaner, tighter bass response than you’d get from an APS-1. It cleans up beautifully and holds together nicely into mild overdrive, which is exactly why it shows up so often in country, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska, and classic rock setups.
