Description
If you love the bell-like snap of a true vintage single-coil but find your unwound G string jumping out of balance, this Seymour Duncan set was built to fix exactly that. It shares the same vintage coil winding as the SSL-1, but swaps in hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets of equal length, set flush and flat across the polepiece row instead of staggered. That flat magnetic field spreads evenly under today’s string sets and flatter fingerboard radii, so output stays consistent when you bend, rather than dipping or spiking on certain strings.
Tonally it lands close to the SSL-1: clean, articulate, and unmistakably vintage, with a brighter attack and more top-end sparkle than Duncan’s APS-2. Expect that classic “bell” chime on the top strings and enough clarity in the mids to keep chords from turning to mush, whether you’re playing twangy country runs, surf leads, rockabilly rhythm, ska stabs, blues bends, or straight-up classic rock.
Being a calibrated set, the neck, middle, and bridge pickups are wound and matched to work together — output and tone stay balanced across all three positions instead of one pickup overpowering the others when you switch.
- Calibrated 3-pickup Strat set (neck, middle, bridge)
- True single-coil design with flat Alnico 5 rod magnets
- Even response across strings, tuned for modern string gauges and flatter neck radii
- Bright, vintage bell tone with sharp attack, sits between SSL-1 and APS-2 voicing
- Waxed cloth hookup cable
- Vintage-style keyed bottom plate
Suited to players chasing warm, authentic Strat character for country, pop, surf, rockabilly, blues, ska, and classic rock tones.
