Description
The Quarter Pound Flat Strat is Seymour Duncan’s answer to players who love the snap of a single-coil but want more meat behind it. This is the RW/RP (reverse wound/reverse polarity) version, built to hum-cancel when combined with a standard Strat pickup in the middle or neck position — handy for that classic in-between quack without the 60-cycle buzz.
Under the hood you’ll find hand-polished, quarter-inch diameter magnets — noticeably fatter than a vintage-spec Strat pickup’s magnets — wound with a heavier coil to more than double the output of a traditional single-coil. The payoff is a thick, punchy voice that leans toward P-90 territory: articulate and clean when you back off the volume knob, then aggressive and vocal once you dig in or push it into a cranked amp or overdrive pedal.
Sustain is a strong suit here too, thanks to that beefed-up magnetic pull working with the denser winding. It’s a pickup that rewards dynamic playing — clean rhythm tones stay defined, while lead lines get real bite and hang around longer than you’d expect from a single-coil-shaped pickup.
- Reverse wound/reverse polarity for hum-canceling in combination with a standard pickup
- Quarter-inch diameter, hand-polished magnets
- High output single-coil — over twice the power of a traditional Strat pickup
- No cover
- Well suited to blues, classic rock, garage, heavy rock, and metal
A go-to upgrade for Strat players chasing P-90-style grit without giving up single-coil string clarity.
