Description
The STR-3 is the neck-position half of Seymour Duncan’s Quarter Pound Tele set, and it’s no shrinking violet. Built as a true single-coil, it uses beefed-up 3/16″ pole pieces to generate a stronger magnetic field than a standard Tele pickup, which lets Duncan run a custom coil winding for serious output — enough to go toe-to-toe with humbuckers and hot P-90s.
Despite the added muscle, this isn’t a one-trick high-gain pickup. The bigger magnetic pull sharpens treble definition and thickens up the midrange, so you still get that biting, articulate top end Teles are known for, just with more push behind it. Drive an amp into overdrive and the STR-3 responds with a full, aggressive voice that holds together instead of turning to mush — great territory for classic rock, jazz-rock fusion, heavy rock, and instrumental rock tones that need to cut.
Paired with its lead counterpart, the STR-3 matches tone and output across the set, so switching positions feels consistent rather than lopsided. It arrives with a chrome-plated brass cover, keeping the classic Tele neck-pickup look while hiding some serious firepower underneath.
