Description
The Alternative 8 Trembucker exists for players who refuse to give up alnico warmth just because they want serious horsepower. Seymour Duncan built this one around custom high-output coils paired with a punchy alnico 8 bar magnet, landing on a tonal signature that borrows the airy treble of alnico 2 while leaning into the midrange push of alnico 5. What comes out the other end is big, aggressive, and cutting – but never harsh or fizzy the way some high-output humbuckers can get under gain.
- Alnico 8 bar magnet for high output with alnico-style clarity
- Custom wound high output coils
- Nickel silver bottom plate
- 4-conductor lead wire for coil-split, series/parallel, and other wiring options
- Vacuum wax potted to eliminate microphonic squeal at stage volume
- Reverse Zebra bobbin finish
This is the Trembucker version, meaning the pole pieces are spaced wider apart to line up correctly under guitars with a tremolo bridge or a wide-spaced hardtail (roughly 2 inches or more from the low E to high E string, measured directly over the bridge pickup). Hand-built at Seymour Duncan’s Santa Barbara, CA factory.
For a bridge/neck pairing that stays balanced front to back, Seymour Duncan suggests running this bridge pickup alongside their ’59 or Jazz neck model. Great choice if your rig lives in high-gain territory but you still want pick attack and note definition to survive the mix.
