Description
Seymour Duncan handed Kevin Beller, VP of Engineering, an open brief: forget budget, forget convention, just chase the best possible Strat tone. The Zephyr Silver is what came back — the world’s first Hi-Fi Strat pickup wound with silver wire instead of copper.
- Silver has lower CD resistance per unit length than copper (5.36% lower), so it doesn’t artificially hype highs and lows — it simply passes more of your string signal through cleanly, with less loss along the way.
- Silver’s softer temper lets it lay down into a tighter, more uniform coil, which translates into quicker pick and finger-attack response.
- Alnico 5 pole rod magnets keep the pickup rooted in classic single-coil Strat character rather than chasing a generic hi-fi sound.
- Cryogenic treatment is applied to further pull detail and resolution out of the finished pickup.
Dropped into the neck position, the Zephyr Silver opens up airy, complex top-end harmonics while letting the low end hit as hard as you dial it in — without turning muddy or brittle. It’s built for players who already know what a great neck pickup should feel like and want more of it: more sparkle, more depth, more touch sensitivity.
This listing is the black cover version, wired with cloth push-back cable, DCR rated at 6.1k. If you’re rewiring a Strat that deserves better than stock electronics, this is the neck pickup to build the rest of the set around.
