Description
The EMG AB, better known as the Afterburner, is a preset gain booster wired into a push/pull pot so your solo boost lives right under your fingertips. Pull the knob and you’re adding up to 20dB of variable gain on tap — enough to push a clean tone into breakup, or shove an already-hot signal straight into saturated distortion. Push it back down and you’re right back to your normal tone, no volume jump, no tone-suck.
Built around rail-to-rail circuitry, the Afterburner stays quiet and headroom-friendly whether you’re feeding it a hot active pickup or a lower-output passive set — it doesn’t care which camp you’re in. That flexibility, combined with a straightforward install process, makes it a favorite mod for lead players who want a dedicated boost without adding a separate pedal to the board or another switch to remember.
Wiring is simple enough for most players comfortable with a soldering iron, and EMG backs it up with documentation to make the job painless.
