Description
The SA-2R belongs to Tom Anderson’s SA family — single-coil-sized pickups built like the SD series but voiced with a fuller, more full-bodied midrange that never turns mushy or loses its edge. It’s a favorite for hollow bodies and swamp ash bodies, where you want the single-coil snap without the pickup thinning out under the extra resonance those woods bring.
This particular version is the SA-2: a step up in power and fullness from the standard SA-1 (the most commonly requested model in the line), but not as hot as the SA-2+. It’s an excellent bridge-position choice when you want to match output with SA-1 pickups sitting in the neck and middle — keeping your pickup selector switch tonally balanced across all positions instead of one spot jumping out in volume.
The “R” designates reverse-wind/reverse-polarity construction. On its own it sounds the same as a standard SA-2, but wire it alongside a regular (non-reverse) SA in a split-coil setup and the two coils cancel hum together — exactly the trick you need when combining single coils to kill 60-cycle buzz without sacrificing that classic in-between snarl.
- Hum-cancelling single-coil-sized design (SA series)
- Reverse wound / reverse polarity (RW/RP)
- Medium-plus output, fuller midrange than standard SA-1
- Great for bridge position paired with SA-1 in neck/mid
- Ideal for hollow body and swamp ash guitars
Pair it right and go chase some new tones.
