Description
Long before pedal steel took over, Johnny Farina of Santo & Johnny was coaxing that liquid, vocal-like tone out of a Stringmaster — and this is the pickup that made it happen. Seymour Duncan’s Antiquity series rebuilds it faithfully for players restoring or rewiring an original instrument, right down to the push-back cloth-braid hookup wire and included schematic and mounting screws.
The set is designed as a matched pair. The neck pickup is wound “top going” with North polarity, while the bridge unit is wound “top coming” with South polarity — run them together and they cancel hum just like the vintage originals did. Pole spacing is traditional throughout, and the magnets sit flush with the top of the flatwork while protruding slightly from the bottom, giving that smooth, even pickup-to-string response Stringmaster players chase.
Both pickups are calibrated to matching specs: 8.87K DC resistance, 5.23 Henries inductance, and a Q of 2.97, so there’s no tonal mismatch between positions. Height adjustment is via a 6/32 screw through the pickguard, keeping installation period-correct.
- Neck: top going wind, North polarity
- Bridge: top coming wind, South polarity
- Humbucking when used together
- Includes schematic, mounting screws, push-back cloth wire

If you’re bringing a classic Stringmaster back to life, this is the pickup set built specifically for that job.
