The ALX set is EMG’s answer to Alexi Laiho’s specific demands: brutal high gain, tight low-end clarity, and enough versatility to shift between rhythm crunch and searing leads without losing definition. Built on EMG’s HZ passive platform, this humbucker set ships with the custom ABQ EQ/Boost module — a push/pull control that lets you engage or bypass the onboard electronics on the fly.
With the ABQ active, you get a 3-band EQ for shaping the pickup’s voice plus adjustable preamp output to push extra gain when you need it. Pull it out and you’re back to a straightforward passive signal. That switchability means one guitar can cover a much wider tonal range than a typical humbucker set, without needing a pedal or outboard EQ to get there.
The ALX/ABQ combo is available in two configurations depending on your bridge hardware:
- Standard Tuneamatic version (ALX)
- Floyd Rose version (F-ALX)
Both deliver EMG’s usual build reliability alongside the aggressive, cutting tone Alexi is known for — now bundled into a single, install-ready package.
