This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most flexible humbuckers into a combo that’s equally at home cutting through a high-gain rig or cleaning up for classic rock tones. The PAF Pro (DP151BK) takes the neck slot, delivering the open, transparent voice of a PAF with just enough extra push to stay articulate under heavy processing — where muddier pickups tend to disappear. Alnico 5 magnets and 4-conductor wiring give it snappy, chunky lows, a mid-range spike that hints at a half-cocked wah, and treble that stays crisp without turning brittle. Output sits at 300mV with 8.4K DC resistance, making it just as useful in the bridge when you don’t need maximum gain.
In the bridge, the Norton (DP160FBK) — built F-spaced for trem-equipped guitars — splits the difference between FRED’s nasty harmonic bite and The Tone Zone’s mid-heavy muscle. It uses the same patented dual-resonance design found in both of those pickups to produce something hotter and bigger than a vintage-style humbucker, without tipping into full distortion-class territory. At 352mV output and 12.62K DC resistance, also 4-conductor with Alnico 5 magnets, it’s earned a reputation as one of DiMarzio’s most versatile bridge options, pairing well with everything from Air Classics to PAF 36th Anniversary models.
