Description
This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most adaptable humbuckers into a matched pickup solution rather than a random neck-and-bridge grab. The PAF Pro (DP151BK) handles neck duties with an open, PAF-flavored voice that was originally built to cut through the high-gain rigs and rack processors of the mid-80s without turning to mud. It’s got snap and chunk in the low end, a mid-range bump that gives it a subtle “aw” vowel character, and treble that stays articulate instead of getting brittle. It’s equally at home as a bridge pickup when you don’t need maximum output, and works especially well paired with single-coils since it won’t bury them.
In the bridge, the Norton (DP160FBK) in F-spaced trim splits the difference between FRED and The Tone Zone, borrowing FRED’s nastier harmonic edge while carrying more of the Tone Zone’s power and midrange muscle. It uses the same patented dual-resonance design as those two pickups to land somewhere hotter and bigger than a vintage-output humbucker, but short of full distortion territory — making it one of the more flexible bridge options in the DiMarzio lineup.
Both pickups are finished in black and wired with 4-conductor leads for coil-splitting and phase options. A set of D’Addario EXL115 Medium strings (.011-.049) is included at no extra cost.
