Description
Your Precision Bass came with a decent stock pickup, but the DiMarzio Model P (DP122BK, black cover) is built to do a lot more than get you by. Wound as a two-piece hum-cancelling design, it keeps the classic P-Bass split-coil layout but trades away the 60-cycle hum for quiet, focused output. The ceramic magnet pushes out a healthy 163 mV, backed by 11.54 kOhm DC resistance, giving you gain and clarity without softening the low end.
Tonally, this is a pickup that lets your fingers or pick attack come through clearly — punchy and present in a mix, with a gutsy midrange that starts to snarl when you dig in harder. It’s 4-conductor wired, so you’ve got the flexibility to set up series/parallel switching or coil splits if your bass’s control cavity allows it. Pair it with a bridge-position DiMarzio Model J or Ultra Jazz and you can dial in everything from tight midrange punch to a warmer, rounder low end with a bright, articulate top.
This listing bundles the pickup with a set of Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings (EB2831), so once the new pickup is wired in, you can string up fresh and hear the whole instrument break in together.
