Description
The Model J is DiMarzio’s answer to the traditional J-Bass single-coil sound, but with the noise problem solved and the output pushed up a notch. You still get that round, resonant character Jazz Bass players chase, only now it comes through with more authority and dead-quiet hum-cancellation — no need to fight 60-cycle buzz to get your tone.
Because the design leans sensitive and detailed, it’s a great match for fretless basses too. Roll the tone knob back a touch and glissandos or violin-style vibrato take on a genuinely woody, vintage voice. Players looking to expand their tonal palette further often pair a bridge-position Model J with a DiMarzio Model P — the P’s fat low-end warmth combined with the J’s tight top-end snap covers a surprising amount of ground from one bass.
This set, DP123, is built to match the original Fender Jazz Bass layout, where the neck and bridge cavities are two different lengths. The neck pickup here is shorter, the bridge pickup longer — exactly as vintage J-Basses expect. (If your bass uses matching-length cavities instead, DiMarzio sells the same pickup individually as DP123S or DP123L.)
