Description
Born from two years of chasing the exact snarl and sustain Steve Vai demanded for his Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set trades politeness for punch. This is an F-spaced pair built for guitars with trem routing where the pole pieces need to line up with wider string spacing, and both pickups wear a clean white cover finish.
The DP158FW neck pickup is fat, loud, and unapologetically forward in the mix — it’s voiced to cut through rather than sit back and comp. The DP159FW bridge pickup picks up where the neck leaves off: tighter, more aggressive, and hotter output for lead work that doesn’t lose definition when you push a hot amp into overdrive. Both use DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design, which pulls out extra harmonic content that standard humbuckers tend to leave on the table — you’ll hear more overtone complexity whether you’re tracking rhythm chunk or soaring leads.
- Neck (DP158FW): Ceramic magnet, 4-conductor wiring, 294mV output, 13.04K ohms DC resistance
- Bridge (DP159FW): Ceramic magnet, 4-conductor wiring, 404mV output, 13.84K ohms DC resistance
These aren’t shy pickups, and they’re not really designed for players who like their tone smoothed over — feed them a hot amp and some real technique and they respond with harmonic overtones that slice through even a busy mix, live or on tape.
This bundle also includes a set of Ernie Ball EB2220 Power Slinky strings, so you can restring while you’re in there rewiring — no reason to break in new pickups on old, dead strings.
