Description
Born from a two-year collaboration between DiMarzio and Steve Vai for his Ibanez JEM guitars, the Evolution set is built for players who want their pickups to talk back. This F-spaced pair — DP158FW neck and DP159FW bridge — comes in a clean white finish and is bundled with a set of Ernie Ball EB2222 Hybrid Slinky strings to get you gigging or recording right out of the box.
The neck Evolution is fat, punchy, and loud, with enough low-end push to carry lead lines without turning to mud. The bridge model steps things up further: tighter, more aggressive, and hotter output than the neck for cutting rhythm work and searing solos. Both use DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design, which pulls out extra harmonic overtones that standard humbuckers leave behind — that’s the difference between a pickup that just sounds loud and one that sounds alive.
These aren’t subtle, laid-back pickups. Evolutions are voiced for players with real technique and an amp that isn’t afraid to be pushed — feed them properly and they respond with a sound that genuinely burns. Originally engineered for the stage, their clarity and presence translate just as well in the studio, cutting through dense mixes instead of getting buried in them.
