Description
Born from two years of chasing the sound Steve Vai wanted out of his Ibanez Jems, the Evolution set doesn’t do subtle. This is a pickup pair built for players who dig in hard and run their amps hot, rewarding aggression with harmonic complexity most humbuckers can’t touch.
The DP158FW neck pickup delivers a fat, punchy low end with real loudness on tap, while the DP159FW bridge pickup tightens things up and pushes harder still—louder and more aggressive than the neck, exactly as intended. Both use DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design to pull extra harmonic overtones out of the string signal, giving you a voice that cuts through a wall of gain instead of getting buried in it. They were engineered for the stage, but the presence and definition carry over beautifully to recording, slicing cleanly through dense mixes without turning muddy.
This particular set comes in white and F-spaced, matching bridges with tighter string spacing (think many Ibanez and similar shred-oriented guitars). A free set of D’Addario EXL120 Super Light strings rounds out the bundle, so you’re ready to string up and go.
- DP158FW Neck: 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 294mV output, 13.04k ohms DC resistance
- DP159FW Bridge: 4-conductor wiring, ceramic magnet, 404mV output, 13.84k ohms DC resistance
- Color: White
- Spacing: F-Spaced (for narrower bridge string spacing)
- Includes: D’Addario EXL120 Super Light string set
Not a polite-sounding set, and not really meant for beginners—but paired with real technique and a hot amp, this is the tone that made Vai’s playing unmistakable.
