Description
This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most respected humbuckers into one plug-and-play combo, finished in black with a free set of D’Addario EXL117 Medium Top/Extra-Heavy Bottom strings thrown in.
- DP103BK PAF 36th Anniversary (Neck): Built using Larry DiMarzio’s own ’59 Les Paul as the sonic blueprint, this isn’t a straight PAF clone — it’s a re-engineering of Seth Lover’s original design using DiMarzio’s own tech. A deliberately weak magnetic field lets strings ring out longer while keeping the attack focused, almost single-coil in its definition. Custom-coated 42-gauge wire is laid down on computer-controlled winders for consistent output, then wax-dipped to kill squeal and microphonics. The nickel-silver cover uses a newer, more magnetically transparent plating than vintage originals. Smooth, never muddy, and equally happy in the neck or bridge position.
- DP160FBK Norton (Bridge, F-Spaced): Sits tonally between FRED and The Tone Zone — some of FRED’s snarling harmonic bite, with the midrange muscle of the heavier Tone Zone. DiMarzio’s dual-resonance design gives it a bigger, hotter voice than any vintage-style pickup without tipping into distortion-humbucker territory, making it one of the most flexible bridge options in the DiMarzio line.
PAF 36th Anniversary Neck specs: 4-conductor wiring (1-conductor optional), Alnico 5 magnet, 250mV output, 7.31k ohms DC resistance.
