This is DiMarzio’s Air Norton (neck, DP193BK) and Norton Bridge F-Spaced (DP160FBK) paired up as a factory-matched set in black, with a free set of Ernie Ball EB2627 Beefy Slinky strings tossed in.
The Air Norton began as an “Airbucker” take on the Norton design, and while DiMarzio built it expecting a high-gain bridge pickup, it turned out to be a surprisingly special neck pickup instead. Expect deep, warm tone that never turns to mud, plenty of output without sounding compressed or distorted, and harmonic content that’s genuinely rare in a neck humbucker. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts down on string pull, which means more sustain and a lot more room to shape your dynamics from the pick. It plays especially well against 500K pots if you want extra treble and harmonic bite, and pairs naturally with pickups like Air Classic, The Cruiser, The Chopper, or Blue Velvet.
In the bridge, the Norton sits tonally between FRED and The Tone Zone — it borrows some of FRED’s nastier harmonic snarl and blends it with The Tone Zone’s mid-heavy muscle. Built on the same dual-resonance design as those two pickups, it runs hotter than a vintage-style humbucker without tipping into full distortion-class territory, which is part of why it’s considered one of DiMarzio’s most flexible bridge options. It works well with a wide range of neck pickups, including the Air Classic, PAF 36th Anniversary, PAF Pro, and naturally, the Air Norton itself.
Both pickups are built for solid body and semi-hollow guitars and wired with 4-conductor leads for coil-splitting flexibility.
