Description
DiMarzio built the Air Norton as an “Airbucker” take on the Norton, expecting a snarly bridge pickup for high-gain rigs. Instead they found their favorite neck humbucker hiding in plain sight. It’s deep and warm without turning to mud, hot without tipping into distortion, and it throws off harmonics that most neck pickups simply don’t have. The patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, so sustain holds longer and your pick attack stays expressive and dynamic. Pair it with 500K pots if you want to push treble and harmonic detail even further.
In the bridge slot, the F-spaced Norton (DP160FBK) splits the difference between FRED and The Tone Zone — FRED’s nasty harmonic edge meets Tone Zone’s midrange muscle. It’s louder and bigger-sounding than a vintage-style humbucker but stops short of full distortion territory, which is exactly why DiMarzio calls it one of their most versatile bridge pickups. Run it with 250K controls for a rounder voice, or a 500K volume with 250K tone to warm up the highs slightly.
Together, this set delivers a distinctive medium-output blues-rock character that suits solid body and semi-hollow guitars. Both pickups use 4-conductor wiring and Alnico 5 magnets for coil-splitting and phase flexibility. Includes a free set of D’Addario EXL110 Regular Light strings.
