Description
This DiMarzio set pairs the Air Norton (neck) with the F-spaced Norton (bridge) for a humbucker combo that’s warm without going murky and hot without falling into distortion territory. DiMarzio originally built the Air Norton to be an aggressive bridge pickup, but players quickly found it excelled in the neck slot instead — deep, open, and touch-sensitive, with harmonic character that’s genuinely rare in a neck humbucker. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts down on string pull, so you get longer sustain and much finer control over dynamics and pick attack. Run 500K pots on it for extra treble sparkle and harmonic bite.
The Norton in the bridge sits tonally between DiMarzio’s FRED and The Tone Zone — it borrows some of FRED’s snarly harmonic overtones and mixes in the mid-range muscle of the Tone Zone, using the same dual-resonance design found in both. The result is bigger and hotter than a vintage-style pickup but stops short of full distortion-humbucker output, making it one of the more flexible bridge options in the DiMarzio lineup. It plays well with 250K controls, or a 500K volume/250K tone combo for slightly fatter highs.
