Description
This is a matched humbucker set built around contrast: a neck pickup that stays articulate under gain, and a bridge pickup that never turns into mush. The DP193BK Air Norton started life as an Airbucker take on the Norton, and DiMarzio quickly realized it was too good in the neck slot to leave in the bridge. It’s warm and deep without going muddy, hot without smearing into distortion, and throws off unusual harmonic content for a neck humbucker. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, which means longer sustain and a pick response that stays expressive at any dynamic level. Pair it with 500K pots if you want extra treble sparkle and harmonic bite.
On the bridge, the DP155BK Tone Zone handles the high-output side of things but with real dynamic range — dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid response are substantial, giving chords real size and single notes real depth, while the patented dual-resonance coils keep overtones present instead of getting buried under all that output. Split-coil wiring cleans it up into a convincing single-coil voice when you want it.
Both pickups are 4-conductor for full wiring flexibility (series, parallel, split), wound with Alnico 5 magnets, and finished in black to match. Suited to solid-body and semi-hollow guitars alike, and matched here with a free set of D’Addario NYXL1046 Regular Light strings.
