Description
This DiMarzio set pairs the DP193BC Air Norton in the neck with the DP155BC Tone Zone in the bridge, both finished in Black and Creme bobbins, and throws in a set of Ernie Ball EB2221 Regular Slinky strings so you can restring the same day you rewire.
The Air Norton began life as an “Airbucker” take on the Norton, and while DiMarzio built it expecting a snarling bridge pickup, it turned out to be one of the more surprising neck humbuckers around. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, which frees up sustain and lets pick dynamics come through clearly. In the neck slot it’s warm and open without going murky, with just enough output to stand up against a hot bridge pickup — pair it with 500K pots if you want extra treble sparkle and harmonic detail. It plays especially well alongside The Tone Zone, Air Zone, Steve’s Special, or an Air Classic bridge model, and works nicely with single-coils like The Cruiser, The Chopper, or Blue Velvet.
On the bridge side, The Tone Zone exists for guitars that turn into shrill mosquitoes the moment you dig in. It’s a genuinely high-output pickup, but with real dynamic range: hit it hard and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid response are substantial, giving single notes real depth and chords real size, while the patented dual-resonance coils keep overtones from getting lost in all that low end. It’s a natural match for the Air Norton, and its split-coil mode delivers a convincing single-coil voice when you need one.
Recommended for solid body and semi-hollow guitars.
