Description
This DiMarzio set pairs the Air Norton in the neck with the F-spaced Tone Zone in the bridge — a combo that trades one-note high gain for a wider dynamic window you actually control with your pick hand.
The Air Norton (DP193BC) was originally meant as an Airbucker take on the Norton for bridge duty, but it turned out to be an exceptional neck pickup instead. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, so sustain holds and pick attack stays expressive rather than mushy. Expect deep, warm tone that never turns to mud, plus harmonic complexity that’s genuinely rare for a neck humbucker. It’s 4-conductor, Alnico 5, rated around 270mV output at 12.58 Kohm DC resistance — try it with 500K pots for extra treble sparkle and harmonic bite.
Down at the bridge, the Tone Zone (DP155FBC) solves the classic hot-pickup complaint: shrill, one-dimensional buzz. It’s genuinely high output, but hard picking pushes real power while a lighter touch stays cleaner and quieter. Patented dual-resonance coils pull extra overtones out of a pickup that’s already thick with bass and low-mid punch, so single notes carry depth and chords sound massive. This is the F-spaced version, built for guitars with a wider low-E to high-E bridge string spread (think many Ibanez, Jackson, and other trem-equipped bridges). Also 4-conductor and Alnico 5, it runs about 375mV output at 17.31 Kohm DC resistance, and splits cleanly to a convincing single-coil voice.
Suited to solid body and semi-hollow guitars, this pairing works especially well for players chasing medium-to-high output with real touch sensitivity, not just volume.
