Description
This is a set built around contrast that actually works together. The DP193FW Air Norton started life as an “Airbucker” take on the Norton, and DiMarzio expected it to shine in the bridge — instead it turned out to be one of their most versatile neck pickups. Deep and warm without turning to mush, hot without falling apart into distortion, and surprisingly rich in harmonic content for a neck humbucker. The Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, so you get longer sustain and pick dynamics that actually respond to how you play, not just how loud.
Paired with it is the DP155FW Tone Zone in the bridge, DiMarzio’s answer to bridge pickups that turn into shrill mosquito swarms under gain. It’s a high-output design, but with real dynamic range — dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid response are substantial, giving chords real size and single notes real depth. Patented dual-resonance coils keep the overtone content alive despite all that low-end muscle, and it splits cleanly to a usable single-coil voice if your wiring allows it.
Both pickups are F-spaced for bridge-position string alignment and wired 4-conductor for full coil-splitting and phase flexibility. Suited to solid body and semi-hollow guitars. Try 500K pots on the neck for extra treble sparkle, and either 250K controls or a 500K/250K volume-tone combo on the bridge depending on how much top-end bite you want to tame.
