The Rare Earth Blend is Fishman’s answer to players who won’t compromise between punch and air. Instead of choosing between a magnetic pickup’s attack or a mic’s natural bloom, this system runs both simultaneously — a humbucking Rare Earth pickup built around neodymium magnets for tight string-to-string balance, paired with an internally mounted mini hypercardioid electret microphone that fills in the room tone and top-end shimmer a magnet alone can’t capture. Blend the two to taste and you get amplified acoustic sound with real depth, not just volume.
Installation is straightforward: the pickup fits soundholes down to 3-5/8″ in diameter, the gooseneck is permanently attached and pre-positioned for the mic capsule, and the output jack is pre-wired for endpin mounting. Active, low-current preamp electronics keep the signal clean and quiet while stretching a single battery (included, mounted underneath the pickup) to roughly 150 hours of playing time. Plug straight into an amp, PA, mixing console, or DI box.
