Description
This is the classic PJ formula done the way Leo Fender originally spec’d it. The SPB-1 split-coil P Bass pickup uses the same hand-fabricated forbon bobbins, plain enamel wire, and hand-ground sand-cast Alnico magnets found in the ’57 original — the combination responsible for that thick, woody low end that made this design a studio and stage staple across country, blues, pop, and classic rock.
Paired with it is the SJB-1B, a true single-coil bridge pickup wound to the same vintage-correct spirit. Its hand-ground Alnico 5 magnet and moderately wound coil add snap and definition without stripping away warmth, giving the neck-position P a bright, articulate counterpart at the bridge — the essence of the PJ tone split.
Both pickups arrive with waxed cloth hookup cable and non-logo covers, keeping the look period-correct if you’re chasing a vintage build.
- SPB-1: hand-fabricated forbon bobbins, plain enamel wire, sand-cast Alnico magnets
- SJB-1B: hand-ground Alnico 5 magnet, moderate coil winding for balanced output
- Waxed cloth hookup cable and non-logo covers included on both pickups
- Works well alongside Seymour Duncan STC-2 or STC-3 tone circuits for expanded control
- Includes a free set of Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings
Drop this set into any P/J-routed bass and you get the split/single-coil contrast that’s defined that tone for decades — warm and round at the neck, punchy and clear at the bridge.
