Description
There’s a reason lipstick pickups never went out of style: that vintage tube housing hides a genuinely distinctive voice. Seymour Duncan’s SLS-1 set recreates the 1950s formula with Alnico 6 magnets and a purpose-built winding spec, delivering a bright, chiming top-end and airy jangle that’s tailor-made for country, surf, rockabilly, pop and blues players chasing that classic clean-to-crunch sparkle.
This is a calibrated three-pickup set, not just three identical units thrown together. The bridge pickup is wound hotter for a bit more push and bite, while the middle pickup is reverse-wound/reverse-polarity to cancel hum in the classic Strat positions, paired with a standard-wind neck pickup for warmth and clarity.
Because lipsticks run bright, they’re an especially good match for ash, alder or basswood bodies that lean warmer to begin with, and they play beautifully with rosewood fingerboards. Hollow and semi-hollow instruments benefit too, gaining clarity without losing character.
To get you playing right away, this set is bundled with a set of Ernie Ball Power Slinky EB2220 strings, so restringing and rewiring your Strat becomes one easy project instead of two separate purchases.
