Description
Before it became a surf-rock icon, the Jazzmaster pickup was built for a mellower, jazzier voice — and Seymour Duncan’s SJM-1 set brings that 1957 design back without cutting corners. This is the neck (SJM-1N) and bridge (SJM-1B) pairing, wound and constructed to match the original in every detail: shape, wire, magnet placement, the works.
- Moderate output with a lift in the mids and highs, so chords stay glassy and single notes still cut
- Neck unit is reverse-wound relative to the bridge, so running both together cancels hum instead of adding to it
- Each pickup ships with a waxed cloth hookup lead for that period-correct look and feel
- No covers included — these are bare, ready for you to finish the build your way
Equally at home on twangy country licks, breezy surf runs, jazz chords, or a bit of classic rock crunch, this set doesn’t chase modern high-gain output — it leans into the character that made the Jazzmaster a studio favorite in the first place.
To get you playing right away, this listing includes a free set of Ernie Ball 2223 Super Slinky strings (gauges .009–.042), the same set favored by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Angus Young. Nickel-plated steel windings over a hex-core wire, tin-plated high-carbon steel plain strings — reliable, balanced, and built to hold their tone.
