Description
This is the exact humbucker pairing Dimebag Darrell ran to get that unmistakable Pantera crunch — thick, saturated, and mean without falling apart into fuzz. He wanted a bridge pickup that hit hard but stayed articulate, and a neck pickup with enough warmth to smooth out his solos. That’s exactly what this set delivers.
The bridge Dimebucker is built around a ceramic bar magnet with dual stainless steel blades instead of traditional pole pieces, giving you tight low end, scooped mids, and a pick attack that bites without turning brittle. It’s voiced to sag just slightly under heavy playing, so your distortion stays saturated and controlled rather than spinning out of control. Dime himself described the goal in a 2004 interview: gain and grit up front, low end that lands like a gut punch, and top end that cuts without shredding your face off.
Paired in the neck is a ’59 Bridge model, a fully vintage-inspired humbucker right down to the cloth-braided hookup wire — a deliberate contrast that gives Dime’s solos extra teeth and warmth against the aggressive bridge tone.
Both pickups are hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA, and vacuum wax potted to kill microphonic squeal at high gain. The bridge Dimebucker uses 4-conductor lead wire, so you’ve got flexibility for coil-splitting, series/parallel, or phase wiring if you want to experiment beyond the stock configuration.
