Description
This is the pairing Dimebag Darrell actually ran — not a signature name slapped on a random humbucker, but the real bridge-and-neck setup he built his Pantera tone around. He wanted crunch that felt alive under a heavy pick attack, mids that were scooped out of the way, and low end that stayed tight instead of turning to mush when the gain went up.
The bridge pickup — the Dimebucker — gets there with a ceramic bar magnet and dual stainless steel blades instead of traditional poles, giving you a saturated, slightly compressed distortion tone that sags just right when you dig in. It’s hot enough to push an amp hard, but it’s voiced to stay musical rather than collapsing into fuzz. Dime described it himself: warm and crunchy, with low end that hits like a gut punch and top end that cuts without becoming harsh.
In the neck, instead of pairing his hot bridge pickup with something equally aggressive, Dime went the other way and chose the smooth, vintage-flavored ’59, letting it balance out the bridge and add extra bite and clarity to his solos.
Both pickups are hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA and vacuum wax potted to kill microphonic squeal at high gain. The Dimebucker comes with 4-conductor lead wire for wiring flexibility, while the ’59 stays true to vintage form with cloth-braided hookup wire.
