Description
Mustaine wanted the punch of active electronics without losing the feel of a wound pickup, so Seymour Duncan built the LiveWire around that exact compromise. Instead of starting from scratch, they matched the resonant frequencies of the bridge and neck coils to the SH-4 JB and SH-2N Jazz Model respectively, then wired in a discrete Class A preamp to drive them harder. The result reads as an active pickup on paper but behaves like a passive Duncan in your hands — same organic pick response, just with more gain on tap and headroom that stretches up to 25 volts.
- Active preamp raises output and gain while preserving natural touch response
- Discrete Class A circuitry, low-noise, operable up to 25 volts for extra headroom
- Low-profile coil geometry improves efficiency and dynamic range
- Black nickel-plated covers for a stealth look with minimal tonal coloration
- Bridge and neck resonance matched to SH-4 JB and SH-2N Jazz voicings
This set is built for players who ride the gain channel — classic rock, punk, garage, thrash, old school and black metal, nu-metal, and anything else that wants low end tightened up without turning to mud. Everything needed to wire it in comes in the box: mounting hardware, pots, output jack, and battery clip, so it’s a genuine drop-in install rather than a shopping list.
This bundle also throws in a set of Ernie Ball EB2221 Regular Slinky strings (.010–.046) at no extra cost, so you can restring the moment the new electronics are in.
