Description
This is one of Seymour Duncan’s most enduring pairings for a reason: the SH-2N Jazz Model in the neck balances the SH-5 Duncan Custom in the bridge, giving you clarity up front and punch in the back without either pickup stepping on the other.
The SH-2N Jazz Model is a moderate-output humbucker that trades some of the SH-1 ’59’s output for tighter, more detailed treble. It stays articulate through fast runs and cleans up nicely, but doesn’t fall apart when you push it into distortion — the tone stays full and bright with smooth sustain. It’s flexible enough for any style, and yes, this is the same pickup Randy Rhoads used in the neck position.
The SH-5 Duncan Custom is often described as a P.A.F. with more muscle. Its ceramic magnet and custom coil design deliver a compressed, punchy attack with a distinctive midrange and high-end bite, plus enough low-end control to handle dropped tunings without turning to mush. It’s built for classic and heavy rock, funk, punk, R&B, and metal.
